We spent Thanksgiving in Chicago, visiting the Museum of Science and Industry and the Field Museum.  We went shopping on Michigan Avenue and saw a play, The Sparrow, at the Apollo TheaterClick here to see the photo album of the tour.

October 2007

Mike and Michael attended the Boy Scout Chief Okemos Council SCOD 6 Camporee at Camp Kiwanis from October 12 through October 14.  This campout was memorable because Mike earned his 100 night National Camping Award!  We participated in the dutch oven dessert cook-off with a chocolate frosted coconut cake, but didn't win.  However, the cake was tasty, and will be made again on other campouts.  Click here to see the photo album of the campout.

September 2007

The family went on our end-of-summer campout to Wheatley Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada from August 30 through September 2.  Mike discovered the wonders of antiquing, and has started collecting A&W Root Beer mugs.  We took the ferry out to Pelee Island.   Overall we weren't greatly impressed with the activities there.  It was fun for a day, but we probably won't return.  The Art Works had some nice things to see and buy.  Rebekah bought some jewelry and Mike found a nice walking staff.  The Winery was a good place to eat.  Their setup is unusual.  You buy uncooked meat and cook it yourself on grills which they have set up in their courtyard.  They have live music while you cook and eat.  The cheese is VERY good!

Our other big event this month was the completion of Mike's Eagle Project!  He managed the construction of shelters over the player benches at one of the baseball diamonds at Nancy Moore Park.  His project took over 200 hours of effort, and cost over $1,300. Click here to see a photo album of Mike's Eagle Scout Project.

July 2007

Mike and Michael attended Boy Scout Summer camp with Troop 109 at Pioneer Scout Reservation from July 8 through July 14.  Click here to see the photo album from the trip.

Mike and Michael went whitewater rafting on the New River in West Virginia with Boy Scout Troop 109.  We drove to Beckley on Friday, July 27 and stayed in a hotel until the rest of the troop will arrived.  Mike and Michael joined them while Rebekah visited with Claudia and Woody, who were camping at Lake Stephens.  After the rafting, we went to the Darnell Family Reunion in Beckley!  Click here to see the photo album of the rafting trip.

We enjoyed wonderful dining on this trip.  One of the highlights was the pizza at Pasquale’s.  The 10-inch pizza was surely over 12 inches across, and very tasty.  We also dined at Smokey's On The Gorge, which was surperb!

June 2007

Mike and Michael went to the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base with Boy Scout Troop 109!  We left on Wednesday, June 20 and returned on June 27.  We participated in the Scuba Adventure, and had nine dives, including a night dive.  We also visited Key West.  Click here to see the photo album from the trip.

Mike and Michael went camping and canoeing on the Chippewa River with Boy Scout Troop 109.  We drove to Camp Weidman near Mt. Pleasant on Friday evening, June 1.  That night we had a tremendous rain storm, but no one goot too wet.  Mike's tent leaked a bit, and needs to be re-waterproofed.  On Saturday we rented canoes from Buckley's Mountainside Canoes and paddled down the river to our campsite.  We pulled the canoes up the bank and spent the night.  The scouts enjoyed splashing in the river, which is very shallow.  We continued down the river to our pick-up point on Sunday.  Then we drove back to camp and packed up our soggy equipment.  Overall a fun trip!  Click here to see the photo album from the trip.

May 2007

Rebekah attended the Michigan P.E.O. State Convention on May 19, 20 and 21.  The convention was held at Saginaw Valley State University.  Rebekah was the chairman of the Michigan Cottey Scholarship Fund Committee this year.

February 2007

Mike went with Boy Scout Troop 109 to the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex to ride the luge!  This was Mike's second trip to the luge run.  Click here to see the photo album from the trip.

January 2007

Mike and Michael attended the 20th annual Merit Badge Jamboree held by the Eagle Scout Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis.  Our contingent of scouts and leaders from Boy Scout Troop 109 drove to Annapolis on Friday, January 12.  Since we drove so far, we were able to get a cabin at the campsite in YMCA Camp Letts.  On Saturday we drove to the Naval Academy where Michael earned the Nuclear Science merit badge.

On Sunday we cleaned up the cabin and drove to Washington, DC.  We rode the subway downtown and visited the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.  Mike and I went to the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian for lunch.  The Mitsitam Cafe in the museum has a great menu!  After lunch we walked to the World War II memorial.  Then we loaded back into the van and drove home for a VERY late return.  Click here to see the photo album from the trip.

This was our second visit to the Annapolis Merit Badge Jamboree.  Click here to see the photo album from our trip in 2006.
